CAS Award Applications

College of Arts and Sciences Awards

2014-2015

 

Application materials for the various College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) honors and awards are now being accepted! Anyone who is interested in any of the CAS awards may apply. Submit application materials in the numerical order specified for each award to Ms. Sandra Woodard in Lauretta J. Taylor, Room 318 (The main office of the CJ Department) by Friday, MARCH 6TH by 5pm.

CAS Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award

Anyone who teaches at FSU may apply.

The nominee must submit a folder (no binders!**) that contains the following:

 

  1. A letter up to two pages in length from the nominee that should include the following:
  2. Teaching philosophy
  3. Innovative teaching techniques practiced in the classroom setting

(e.g., the use of service learning opportunities, student engagement in research, etc.)

  1. Improvements pertaining to teaching and learning in the classroom

(This may include course redesigns, course enhancements, etc.)

  1. Documented evidence of student learning, success, or improvement (strongly encouraged)

 

  1. A list of teaching and learning workshops, seminars, and conferences (be sure to include dates)

 

  1. Copies of student course evaluations from the following semesters: Spring 2013, Fall 2013, Spring 2014, & Fall 2014. You may also include additional forms of student feedback.

 

 

CAS Academic Advisor of the Year Award

Nominee must be full-time faculty.

The nominee must submit a folder that contains the following:

 

  1. A letter up to two pages in length from the nominee that should include the following:
  2. Reasons why the nominee feels he or she is a good advisor
  3. An explanation for whether and how advisement duties involved activities or efforts that you feel were above and beyond the norm
  4. Innovative ways of successfully advising students

 

  1. A letter of support from their chair

 

  1. Supporting data:
  2. A copy of advising survey results for the current academic year
  3. Student input (e.g., letters, emails, etc.), whether solicited or unsolicited, is encouraged

 

CAS Academician of the Year Award

Nominee must be full-time faculty

The nominee must submit a folder (not a binder**) that contains the following:

 

  1. A letter up to two pages in length from the nominee that includes an explanation of how your body of work over the past two years (specifically, from Spring 2013 to Fall of 2014) contributes to your discipline. Applicants are encouraged to provide impact factor scores or other indicators of influence within the field.

 

  1. A complete Digital Measures report that includes documentation of the following:
  2. Scholarly works (peer-reviewed journal articles and manuscripts)
  3. Creative works (peer-reviewed productions/activities)
  4. Other types of activity (presentations, grant applications; grant awards; evidence of student mentorship; non-peer-reviewed publications)

 

 

CAS Student of the Year Award

Nominee must be a full-time student with a 3.5 overall GPA

The nominee must submit a folder that contains the following:

 

  1. A letter up to two pages in length from the nominee that includes the following:
  2. An explanation for why the nominee should be the CAS student of the year
  3. A description of the nominee’s accomplishments and community service

 

  1. The most recent unofficial FSU transcript

 

  1. Two letters of recommendation from professors/instructors who have taught the nominee

 

 

CAS Staff of the Year Award

A chair, faculty, or staff can nominate a staff member for this award by submitting a folder or envelope that contains the following:

 

1) A letter up to two pages in length explaining how the nominee exemplifies the motto “The buck stops here”

 

OR

 

A staff member can nominate him or herself for this award by submitting a folder or envelope that contains the following:

 

1)   A letter up to two pages in length explaining how you exemplify the motto The buck stops here

 

2)   A letter of support from your direct supervisor (optional)

 

 

CAS Department of the Year Award

The department chair should submit a printed letter (no emails) up to three pages in length addressing the following:

 

1) Notable accomplishments by members of the department or by the department as a unit

 

2) Statistical evidence of department teaching effectiveness, which can include the following:

  1. Persistence rates
  2. Advisement survey results
  3. Graduation rates
  4. NSSE results

 

3) Evidence of service to the University and the community by members of the department or by the department as a unit

 

4) Evidence of scholarly/creative activities engaged in by members of the department

 

 

 

 

** Any binders received will not be reviewed, and will be returned immediately.
